Maplewood Police Department Crash Report Guide
The Maplewood Police Department shares one building with Maplewood City Hall at 1830 County Road B East, two blocks south of Highway 36. The Records Unit inside releases crash reports in person, by mail, by fax, or by email — there is no online portal. If you were hurt in a Maplewood crash, the official record of it lives at the City Hall service desk.

The Building
One Building With City Hall
The Records Unit has no separate police lobby — it sits inside Maplewood City Hall, and in-person requests go through the City Hall service desk. The City of Maplewood operates the department; its head carries the title Public Safety Director, and the city's Wall of Police Chiefs documents leadership back to 1954.
Two sets of hours apply, and they don't match. Go by the records counter's schedule — Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to noon — and call ahead before you make the trip.

Requesting Your Crash Report From Maplewood
Maplewood takes crash and police report requests four ways: in person at the City Hall service desk, by mail, by fax at 651-249-2699, or by email to pdrecords@maplewoodmn.gov, always with a copy of your photo ID. There is no online request portal — those four routes are the complete list.
A request can take up to 10 business days. No per-copy fee is published for accident reports, so ask about cost when you submit. Photo ID matters because Minnesota restricts who may receive a crash report at all.
Minnesota Law
Who May Receive the Report — and Why It Comes From Maplewood
Minnesota Statutes section 169.09, subdivision 13(a)(1) limits crash-report release to the people involved, their estates or next of kin, injured persons, their attorneys, representatives of their insurers, and prosecutors handling charges arising from the crash. If the crash injured you, you're on that list. So is the attorney you retain.
Since the July 1, 2021 repeal of section 169.09, subdivision 7, crash reports no longer flow to the state's Driver and Vehicle Services — the investigating agency is the practical source. For a Maplewood crash, that means this department, not a state office.
Insurers' representatives sit on the same release list, so the other side will read this document. Obtaining it early is part of how I put the official crash record to work in an injury claim.
Beyond the Paper Report
Body-Camera Footage and Property Are Separate Lanes
The paper report is one lane. Body-worn-camera footage and other digital evidence run through a different one — a body-camera request form sent to Evidence.Request@maplewoodmn.gov, governed by Minnesota Statutes section 13.825. Don't fold a footage request into your report request.
Property held by the department is released by appointment with the property and evidence technician, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Getting There
Where It Is on County Road B
The address is 1830 County Road B East — two blocks south of Highway 36, one block east of White Bear Avenue. The building sits 1.87 miles from M Health Fairview St. John's Hospital and 2.29 miles from my Maplewood office on County Road D.
If your crash happened in Saint Paul instead, the report lives with a different department: Saint Paul Police Headquarters, 4.61 miles away on Grove Street. My guide to the Grove Street records counter covers that department's process, including the online portal Saint Paul runs and Maplewood doesn't.
